Before Photo - Bascom Cleft Lift (1 of 7)

This patient suffered a severe failure of prior surgery. The breakdown, the primary source of trouble, shows as the opening nearest the anus, now surrounded by pus and hair. Adverse conditions deep in the cleft had overwhelmed the healing powers of an earlier suture line, created a new primary opening near the anus. The cleft walls, chapped red, suggest a high degree of irritation from drainage in this airless body fold. A curved scar high on the left buttock, from a prior rotation flap, had healed well. That curved scar bears testimony to the patient's healing powers, but only if healing air reaches the suture line.
