Default The Bascom List - USA surgeons

Due to the increasing number of people looking for information on surgeons who are performing the Cleft Lift (or have at least heard of it), we are providing the list in PDF format. The list will be updated as new names are added. Please note that the names in RED are those surgeons that we KNOW to be practicing Cleft Lifts successfully. The others are known to only have requested info on the procedure.

Up to date as of June 2010.

http://www.pilonidal.org/pdfs/PiloMDs_USA_06_2010.pdf

Help us keep the list up to date! If you call someone on the list and find them retired or moved, let us know! Likewise, if you find a surgeon who is doing Cleft Lift and isn't on our list, let us know.

Default Dr. Steven E. Swartz Update

I just called into

Steven E. Swartz
411 West Randolph Road
Hopwell VA 23860
(804) 330-2000

Update: The current phone number is (804) 560 5962 and the town is Hopewell. Dr Swartz does not perform a the textbook Bascom surgery, but he is well aware of it. He does perform a "similar" surgery.

i just wanted to talk about my experience with a surgeon on the list. i was self referred there after finding him on the list. his name is dr immerman from eau claire wisconsin.

my first visit with him was very quick and right from the office i was scheduled for surgery. no pre op physical, just a date. i am known for alot of complications and i tried talking to him about my past problems and he told me that it was irrelevent to his cleft lift because hes the best and has only had 1 complication in 20 years. i left there feeling very confused and skeptical at his arrogance. i just told myself that if i'm cured by this surgery than i guess he deserves his arrogance.

i went for my surgery on the 13th of april. i never saw the surgeon before or after. the only things i heard were from my husband who said the surgery was deeper than expected and i'd have my drain in for 10 days instead of 5 days.

it was a rough 10 days. i did go back to eau claire for it to be removed. i was hoping to ask some questions but he just said if he had a commercial for the cleft, he'd put my butt in it cause it looked great. i bet he tells all his patients that.

anyways at about 4 weeks post op i started having really bad pains near the incision so i called them and was more than willing to drive 3 hours just for him to look at it. he said that because it looked so good at 10 days that he refused to see my and to someone else. i was released from care. i was baffled. very baffled.

i'm about 5 weeks post op and the pain is getting better so maybe he did cure me which is great great news. thats ultimatly what i want, is my life back. i just wanted to let everyone know that he may, just may be good at the cleft which is a bonus but refuses to see the operation thru. i'm not even 6 weeks in. good luck to all of u searching for a great doctor.

Cricket,

After ALL you've been through, how scarey an experience! Like you say, as long as this op fixes your issues it is well worth going through. Still unfortunate however.

I've had a few 'odd' doctors in my time. One can have great skill and still suck big time at bedside manner. Guess that is something that can't be taught in med school... compassion comes from the heart.

All the best to you,
Mumto2

Default another possible Boston Dr.

Okay so I called the office of Dr. Masiakos at Mass. General Hospital but he only does pediatric patients and refers adults for Cleft Lift to Dr. Michael Reinhorn at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Phone 617-244-5355.

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to bring this sort of thing up, but I just tried calling the listing for Theodore X O'Connell (4747 W. Sunset Blvd Los Angeles CA 90027 323-667-4924) and it went to someone's personal phone. I double-checked that I had called the right number as well.

Hi all!
It took me a while to find the right place to post this. So here is our story. I 2007 my daughter Sarah found out she had PC. I took her to DR. Kim here in Grand Rapids, MI. He did a pit picking without numbing the area. We also had other problems with him, like not explaining what it was nor how to cure it. 2 months later, we took her back to him and he did an open wound surgery. Again no info from him {he is on the DR hall of fame}. This healed well, but 6 months later I noticed a sinus with tons of pain {please note, we didn't join this group till about 2 months ago}. He said not to worry. One morning 4 weeks ago my daughter woke up to tons of bleeding from the sinus. We then decieded to take her Dr Heather Slay. Dr. Slay performed a karydakis flap on Aug. 12. Today 3 weeks later, at her appt. Dr. Slay checked and said she is healing fine, no infection, no sinus.
We would like to recommand DR. Slay to the Hall of Fame! She is kind of heart, a great listener as well as explains everything she does. She is awesome in our eyes! Here is all her info.
Dr Heather Slay
MMPC
4100 Lake DR
Suite 205
Grand Rapids, MI
Phone # 616-356-4100
Thank you,
Sharon and Sarah

Dr. Earl W. Mcallister in Tampa, Florida no longer performs the procedure. Please update your sheet. And thanks for maintaining it!
