Hello, I'm a 30 year old male. I have a pilonidal sinus. I never had a problem with it. However 3 years ago i noticed a hard small lump in the tailbone area. I didn't give it much thought because it didn't hurt. One time i came back from cycling i noticed blood. I thought it was a pimple that just burst. I now have a small scar and i can still feal a small bump the size of a blueberry but no symptoms. After some research and hearing about surgery and stuff i panicked and went to my doctor. She examined me and said it's a pilonidal sinus. She told me to keep the area clean and remove hair every two weeks. I was told since i'm a litlle older and i don't have infections it will probably stay like this and if there are any problems to come see her. That's it. Is this normal? Am i being treated correctly?

    Thank you

Usually these things aren't treated until after infection/it becomes abscessed. Some people have these things and never have a "major" problem. But if it becomes painful and doesn't go away, she'll then treat it. I don't think there's much to be done unless it gets infected. I have yet to hear a story that someone had surgery without it ever getting infected. I'm still fairly new since I had a Pilonidal abscess in October. I had it lanced and had an excision a month after the lance. I read a lot about this and I have yet to see someone get treated if they've never had an abscess or infection or even drainage. All cases differ from person to person. If you have a gut feeling, you can always get a second professional opinion. Preferably a rectal surgeon.

I would get a second opinion. I had one that gave me no pain for a while but when it did start to hurt the pain got terrible within a few days and I had to go to the ER.
