I've already had 2 pilonidal cysts. Had my first one in 2002 and my 2nd one in 2003. Now my area is very red again and it's split open. It's hurting again when I sit, is this possibly another one?[8)]

    Well I'm back again

It looks like it's gotten worse, it keeps healing then splitting and I've been having alot of pains in the area when I sit. The area is very red, and it bleeds alot and has yellow looking stuff in it sometimes. I'm going back to the doctor again on Monday so hopefully he can do something for me. I have a feeling it's another one, or another cyst forming. You would think after a year it would be healed up and fine. I've already had 2 cysts, and it seems like each year around the same time another one pops up.[:xX]

Jarrod, it may be that your Dr. didn't get all the pits the first time around, and they are now acting up and trying to start new abscesses. This can be corrected simply, but you have to have a doctor who knows what they are looking for.

It's funny (okay, not funny, but...) that you say that. I have noticed that every time mine have gotten really really bad it has been late summer. At first I thought it was coincidence, but it is also possible that your daily activities change enough in the summer. I have noticed since the beginning that when it's really hot out I tend to get worse flare-ups, so in the summer I started showering twice a day instead of every morning.

Just a thought. Once you do get this all taken care of, you may want to think about anything that might be different - do you do more outside activities? Does it get exceptionally hot or humid where you live? Anything like that can contribute to problems if they are already there...

Well I'm Back again boys and girls.

I had a catscan done just like I did last year and nothing showed up. Then the doctor did the surgery and found another cyst. The doctor dosen't know what to do now. He dosen't want to cut me again, but he knows I'm in pain. He said he'd get me a second opinion, but he never returned the calls my mom made. So my mom found a new doctor for me, but I can't see him till November 10th:(I don't know what the heck is going on back there. It keeps healing then splitting open and it bleeds alot. It also throbs constantly. It's very uncomfortable to sit. I'm typing this standing. It has ruined my life since 2002. I have lost so many credits at school and I'm so far behind. It's becoming a real pain:( I definately think it's another one forming back there, I know cause I've already had 2 of these dang cysts. Both mine were infected too, anyone got any advice?

    Many Thanks
    Jarrod

Have you spoken to your Dean at school about any of this? I did and they let me graduate a few credits short because of my medical problems. maybe they can help you get back on track by letting you skip some electives or something if you do not want to graduate that far behind schedule. good luck with your other doctor and maybe your primary care or student health can give some pain meds so you can sit through class thats what I did. you can get the notes and if you feel you are less alert you can always review them again at home while you are laying down not in pain. I did that too. Just a thought.

A catscan won't show anything anyway. Ask for an MRI with contrast done at a high resolution. Or a PET scan, if your doctor/hospital does this type. Those will show a possible cyst or tracts. You may want to also do a bone scan to make sure the bone isn't infected and that's causing it to split open.

Another option is to bring a mini tape recorder with you, or have someone else do it for you, that way you still get a good portion of each class and it really helps when you review notes. I knew a lot of people who did that anyway when i was in college, and they swore by it. I never did but if I were in a situation like that and had to get the material to keep up I think it would be a good idea.

Thanks for the help guys. My mom is currently home schooling me. I was in a telephone class the past 2 years when I had the first 2 cysts done. So that helped out alot when I was healing. It was very hard doing math over the phone, that's for sure.

BTW The Area where my first 2 cysts were is split badly now[V]

If I can I'm going to get my mom to take a picture of it and maybe I can post it here. So you all can see and tell me what you think. I don't know if I'm allowed to do that or not though. Does anyone know?

    Well I'm back again

I have had a very hard time since I last posted here.

My suregon that did the first 2 pilonidal cysts never returned my phone calls about finding me a new doctor. He didn't know what to do so he pretty much ignored me. That was about a month ago. My mom has called his office about 8 times, never called back. So I said screw him, I didn't like the guy anyway. He wanted me to do P.E. a day after I had my 1st surgery. He never listened to what I had to say, plus he exaggerated so much. Unless your Superman theres no way you can do sports the 2nd day after surgery well I sure couldn't. Both of my pilonidal cysts I had were infected[:((]

So I moved on and found a new doctor

So I met my new doc and boy was he alot nicer than the one I last had. I told him all about my past doctor and how he had me do the catscans to see if I had cysts. He shook his head and said those don't show up polonidal cysts at all. He also said alot of bad things about my past surgen I had. He looked at the wound and said it looked ok, but it was very red. What it does, is it heals up then splits, when I went it was all healed up for some reason. I just looked at it again tonight and guess what? It's split again. He knows something is bothering me, but he dosen't know for sure if it's another cyst. He dosen't want to put me to sleep and operate on me, unless it's needed. I've been put to sleep 4 times since 2002. Last April when I had surgery done on my esophagus I came out bad. I busted all the blood vessels in my face and looked like a demon for 3 weeks. So I don't want to be put asleep again, unless it will make the pain go away for good. So he said come back when it's split open again and I'll have a look at it. He also thinks my tail bone could be the problem causing me to have pain. Or it could possibly be my scoliosis in my back. So I don't know what's going on. It throbs alot and always feels very hot in the area. Anybody got any suggestions for me?

Sorry for the long post, I just thought I'd let you all know how it went.
