    Hi All,

Does anyone know a surgeon in Perth WA who does the cleft lift operation?

I had my first surgery 4 weeks ago which was the Karydakis procedure. I went back to the hospital yesterday as I had concerns the sinus had reoccurred and sure enough the doctor confirmed there was a sinus open at the bottom of my wound. I asked her about the next steps from here and I also asked about a cleft lift procedure as I heard good things about it from this site. She hadn't heard of a cleft lift and thought it is probably another name for Karydakis procedure as they both try and flatten the cleft.

I am due back to the hospital in 4 weeks as she wants my original scar to heal fully before we book anything else in. I was hoping between now and then I could find a surgeon experienced in pilonidal surgery in Perth that I could have a chat to and possibly get them to do a cleft lift (if it is in fact different to Karydakis procedure)

If I can't find someone in Perth I might have to start looking interstate for someone who can perform the procedure, so if anyone has any suggestions for experienced cleft lift surgeons that would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi psmm1,
I have to pipe up because I'm in Perth... but no... it sounds like a foreign term here to me.
A user in here called Melbourne_Mum recommends Dr L. P. Cheah in Melbourne... If anyone... maybe they can do it or clarify?

I'm actually in a similar situation to you.. but I still have full faith in my General Surgeon (Armadale). I'm 10 weeks into healing a 25cm scar which was an open wound with delayed closure... and a couple of surgical re-openings to let it heal better. he really gave it it's best chance to heal... (aware of recurrence with closed wounds). After 10 weeks most of the area had healed... but an area at the bottom of the wound which never really looked back to me... re-opened and I'm pretty convinced there's something hiding down there.

He is also waiting for my scar to heal more before he touches it. He spotted the disease below the wound (during the first followup) weeks before the nurses noticed the pin holes. I see him again on the 29th... and it's probably got a bit worse in the last couple of weeks... will see if he speeds up or delays the next op.

I also wonder if a Cleft Lift even helps with a wound and sinus that low down

actually I hope I can paste the link to another discussion http://www.pilonidal.org/xfforums/i...e-between-karydakis-flap-and-cleft-lift.6893/

Hi. I had the Bascom procedure (Pit-Picking) done by Dr L.P Cheah and highly recommend him. He was trained by one of the leading Pilonidal surgeons in Australia, whose name I have forgotten (he has since passed away).

He also performs the 'modified Karydakis' procedure..I have his mobile number if you want to call him, just send me a PM.

    All the best,

    Nick.

    Hi Tonster,
Thanks for your reply, Dr L. P. Cheah may be the way to go. I would like to avoid travelling if I can, but the last thing I want is another failed surgery.

I had mine done at Fremantle Hospital and was honestly very disappointed in my surgeon (he was basically un-contactable before and after the surgery) so must just be the luck of the draw. I hope for your sake it's not a recurrence - My heart sank when I was told the news. 25cm is a massive scar! mine was only 9 stitches (7cm i think).
