First off, I've been googling and looking at threads here for the past week and feel like I haven't seen what I've been going through, so I decided to make my own post!

Anyway, the short history is over a year ago I was studying abroad in England when I got a perianal abscess out of nowhere. I remembered feeling it start like a bruise near the top of my butt crack but deep down in the muscle, and in a week it became unbearable. I was on antibiotics for two weeks and it thankfully went away. Now, about a month ago, I stated feeling the same but very faint bruising near my butthole again. This time it felt like a different area, located further down where I couldn't see. Because it was Christmas time and I had a lot to do for my family I didn't go to the doctors until the day before New Years. By then the pain was a little stronger, but it wasn't killing me or anything. It just wasn't going away or getting better. This guy was in a rush to get patients in and out (I've never had him as a doctor before) and just prescribed me 10 days of antibiotics. When he was pressing around, the pain was right at the tip of my tailbone and it reallllyyy hurt when he pressed on it. He thought it might be a cyst in its very early stages.

So my antibiotics are almost up and I feel just about the same. Some days are better some are worse. It doesn't hurt when I defecate, nor when I'm standing or walking or running etc. It only really hurts after sitting in place for a long time. Also, recently the muscles around my pelvic area (i don't really know how to describe where they are... maybe the joints that connect my pelvis to my legs? to the right and left of my vagina) have been feeling achy and sore.

My question is, is this a cyst? or something else entirely? If anyone has had any similar experience or advice on what kind of Doctor to see I would really appreciate it!!! I have no health insurance so I'm looking for as much at home remedies I can try. Thanks!!!

oh wow... I can't believe you need health insurance in America for this sorta thing. Maybe someone knows a home remedy... but this is internal... I wonder what antibiotics you were prescribed and what sort of infection the GP is treating there. Or if they are just having a stab in the dark....... ;>

I think it's a serious one you should get a referral to a Proctologist, Rectal or Colon Surgeon/Specialist. You don't want something internal rupturing or causing some sort of toxic infection. (my path was via Dermatologists because of other skin problems and mine being visible)

It sounds like it. Sounds a lot like mine as far as the flare up and calming down and flaring up again and calming down. Mine did that for years. I never had anything near anus. That's a different kind of cyst. I'd see a rectal surgeon.

thanks both of you! I have an appointment with my regular doctor tomorrow so maybe she can guide me in a certain direction.... I do think that I'll have to go see a rectal surgeon or something similar though. I always hope that one morning I'll wake up and it will just be gone! ahahaha

I'm going to update whats happening with my problem so future worriers might find some relief! I know reading all these stories makes you feel like you have a cyst problem too, but it's not always the case. Especially I think when it comes to female sex bodies and the hormones due to periods.

So I went to my family doctor today and she told me, after feeling around the sore area and noticing a little redness, that I most likely have a fungal infection in the area. After asking her a dozen different ways if this could somehow be a cyst she told me that she can feel my bone all along that area because I don't have much fat there and there is definitely no cyst. After reading this story here, http://www.coccyx.org/personal/2005/melissa3.htm, I am pretty sure that my doctor is right. I was having a TERRIBLE period around Christmas when I felt this pain really start. Also, the antibiotics might be playing a part in continuation of the pain, as they destroy a lot of the bodys natural flora, which is probably just trying to heal me but can't lol.

I'll update a week from now, but basically I just wanted to post this to let others know that if what you're feeling isn't super severe and you can't feel any hardness then you might just have a fungal infection! ahahah

That's awesome!!! Well...... Bittersweet I guess lol not gonna say congrats on the fungal infection but definitely congrats on no pilo! Now are you glad you went?? lol. Yeah if you have hardly any fat back there, so much less that she can feel your bone, pilo might be ehh. Lol no deep natal cleft for you.
