Thank you for reading this, I really hope you answer! But, anyways I have a pilonidal cyst, was on 2 antibiotics . (Cephalixin, sulforthroxamine? Spc?) Now, just the cephalexin I'm taking. I Was advised to sit on heating pad/hot bath to have it come out to be drained since it is underneath my skin. It still has not showed its ugly face..no drainage,no blood, no pus, no sinus, no dimple, no hole just a sore cyst when I sit down. I was advised by my doctor to have surgery to get it removed. So my question is did anyone that ONLY had a cyst under the skin have to get it removed and if so what kind of surgery did you have?! OR do you still have the cyst and just live with it....!??! I'm beginning to think I don't want to schedule this surgery.

If it's sore, it may abscess first. This is typical. Once it abscesses, it'll erupt and or they'll cut and drain it first. (lance).. After this, they'll talk about surgery. There are a few surgeries they do. Try Epsom salt baths. That'll bring it to a head. Warning, these abscesses are very painful.

Ahhh, yeah it just sounds horrible. Idk, if its the Cephalexin or what. ..but its not that sore today and its just a cyst now underneath my tailbone. I think I might just try to live with it...I don't want to get the absecess!! Thank you so much for answering though!!

@Whoneedstosit I think I might of had the same issue. I turned 30 in the fall and had my first cyst show up in late august/early september. It was sore as hell for sore, but I had been on a boat and swimming for a long time before it showed up and I didn't really think anything of it. It actually went away on its own after 3-4 days I think. It never erupted, never leaked. It just ended up feeling like a sore spot with a lot of dead skin under the surface, kinda similar to a blister that's healing.
Then about 2-3 weeks it showed up again out of the blue. I just woke up one morning and my ass check was bulging. It got worse, and I got to the point where standing up straight and walking was really painful. For whatever reason, I guess it was infected this time. I had a slight fever. On the 4th night, I succumbed to taking tylenol to deal with the pain, because I just couldn't sleep. I was planning on going to the Doctor but it started to sweat a little and I could see it coming to a head. Burst the next day. Ruined my sweatpants and oozed for close to an hour but instantly felt better. The next day I bled out and had to clean myself off every other hour. The following day it continued but at a much slower pace.
From what I've read I'm predisposed to this condition. I have two of what look like pin pricks on my tailbone and have had them for as long as I can remember. For the time I am have electric razored the hair on my butt and lower back and have been really careful about wiping my arse. It's not the best time for me to consider a surgery right now since the healing process seems to be lengthy for a lot of people. Just trying to be extra careful in keeping the area clean. Best of luck to you.

Mine has done the exact same thing for years until one day it didn't just go away. It got larger. I wouldn't just live with it. At least go see a doctor and ask him what's the wisest thing to do. These cysts can grow in size over the years and when it finally does abscess, you will definitely need surgery after the lancing at some point. And if the cyst grows as you live with it, that surgery will be that much worse recovery. Could result in a wide excision and having a deep cavity that they will not be able to stitch shut, but leave up and packed to heal. I strongly advise and urge you to seek medical attention. Do not just live with it.
