    Hi All,

I am facing with recurrence of pilonidal sinus after closed flap surgery performed in October 2014.

After consulting with more than 3 surgeons, only option they are suggesting is surgery again for which there is no guarantee of non-recurrence.

For precautionary reasons I have already started laser hair removal in buttocks area to minimize the recurrence chances.

After check-ups from surgeons and checking online, I am looking forward to take Kshara-sutra treatment in ayurveda which is said to be very successful treatment for pilonidal sinus without muchvof invasive surgery.

Here, I want to know from other people who have went for this treatment and what are the success rates, compilations etc.
So please help me out on this.

    Hi,

I had kshar sutra treatment around 2 years back. It is minimally invasive than other procedures. You can return to the work immediately. If you keep the area healthy, it should heal in maximum of 4 months.

However, in my case I am not yet completely healed because I believe I had poor hygiene down there. I am very hairy and it caused reinfection of the healing portion and had to start healing from the beginning again.

How are you having laser hair removal after your surgery was done? Are you having removal done in your cleft or on the healthy buttocks part.

I had been told that laser hair removal can't be done on open wounds or recently healed wounds.I really should have done it before my operation.

Though kshar sutra is promising, it doesn't guarantee no recurrence. ( at least not 100%). From this site I came to know that cleft left is very promising and it makes the cleft shallow. But I don't find any surgeons who perform cleft lift in India.

Keep posted on how your thing goes.

I am having hair removal through laser now and my surgery was done in Oct'14. So there is a gap of more than 1 year. I am removeing the hair from the area of buttock line and it's surroundings.

It takes more than 6 to 8 sittings to completely remove hair and very less growth. And there is a gap of 4-6 weeks in each sitting.

I now don't want to go for major surgery due to chances if further recurrence hence looking for less invasive surgery. That's why seeking suggestions from people who have opted for kshar sutra.

By the way, where are you taking the laser hair treatment from? I mean which hospital ? And what will the cost of entire procedure come to? And are you having any side effects?

It's a clinic in NCR and not hospital. You can go to any established skin clinics like Kaya clinic or VLCC for hair removal. Total cost would be around 30-40k for 6-8 sittings. Right now there are no side effects but some pigmentation burns due to laser being applied on high degree. But I guess Laser hair removal is must for stopping pilonidal sinus as it removes the hair growth from follicle. Although it does not completely stops hair growth and you may require 1-2 sittings annually for maintainance purpose.

$30,000-$40,000 for Laser Hair removal? WTF even Kim Kardashian didnt spend that much on her hair removal. Thats very very extreme. Are you lasering your whole entire body?

There is a groupon for 6 sessions at a clinic for 175$ on a "small" area here in the DC area. I think the cleft in your butt is considered small region lol. Thats ridiculously high priced man.
