My son is 19 years old and has developed a pilonidal cyst. It has bled on and off for a few months, fortunately without ever being infected. A physician's assistant completely missed it even when examining the area, unfortunately. I had the same condition about 25 years ago, but with chronic infection. I had it removed and closed up, but healed way to quickly, and had to have it constantly quarterized(spelling?). I was wondering if anyone knows of some excellent surgeon(s) in Northern New Jersey. I would like to have the surgery done somewhere reasonably close to home, since I know how difficult it can be to travel, post-surgery, especially with this condition. However, I want to insure that he has the absolute best medical care possible, so I am prepared to go into Manhattan (about 1 hour drive). I have been given the name of Stephen Brandeis, but alos saw the name of Tracy Arnell on some posts. I am looking for the best (as we all are) in an effort to minimize the chances of any reoccurence. I also noticed that there are some minimally invasive procedures that are done these days, but am unsure if we should just go with the traditional procedure of getting rid of it in totality. Any physician recommendations/thoughts/ideas would be most appreciated. Sorry for the long post, but as a concerned parent, I would like to get him the best treatment. thanks in advance for your responses. MMM
