Not every who has a pilonidal cyst gets a surgery. You may not have to get the surgery.

What to do, cause you sounds like you're in a lot of pain, is headover to a general surgeon or a colonrectal surgeon and they'll give you some kind of antibiotic or they'll do a lancing and they can perscribe a pain medication.

And this disease isn't very serious, however it can be a painful one (as you already know). The worst this disease gets from what I've read on this website is it can affect the immune system (remember this is an infection) but that's the worst thing (apart from the pain).

In the meantime (until you can get to a surgeon) soak in an Epsom salt bath (and have the water as hot as you can stand it and feel comfortable in) and clean the area of where the cyst is draning. Do that a few times a day for a period of 20 minutes or so.

And if you're wondering if draining is a bad thing, it's not, it's quite normal to have drainage.

    Freakin out huh?

Well you need to see a doc who knows about this stuff. Lots of doctors dont know jack (been there, done that). Go to a doc, see a surgeon, ask questions. Ask how many of these they have seen, and/or done surgery on (not all require surgery). And repeat this until you find a doc that's seen/worked on a lot of them with sucess. At least get some anti-biotics to help with the infection.

It sucks, but you will get through it.
