I'm fairly young (19) and currently have a pilonidal infection. It is my 9th or 10th one, and my 4th in the past year (not including one I had early last April). I'm pretty used to them by now and can predict how they'll develop and what I need to do in terms of treatment.

However, the one I currently have is somewhat strange. The infection seems to be less aggressive than normal. I noticed it on Monday, but it's mostly just swelling and dull pain. Usually by now it would be extremely inflamed, red, and painful, and close to being ready to drain. Could it be a different kind of bacteria infecting the cyst? Typically it's staph and it was skin flora once, but I've never had an infection that's developed this slowly.

    Any ideas, solutions, etc?
