I have to go into surgery tomorrow. Where the doctor will do a small cut and scrape out all the gunk and then.pack it. Can anyone tell me how surgery was. And what to expect? Thank you

Surgery went fine. Today my dad had to take off the dressing and take out the packing. Which hurt because they kinda taped the dressing on. And the packing stung when he took it out. Surgery was fine. I have bruises from the iv but that's to be expected. And the last thing I remember is breathing in through the oxygen mask. All in all went great now I get to wait approximately 8 weeks to go and get the cleft lift done.

You won't regret it! There seems to be agreement here that the cleft lift truly CURES this problem. You'll never have to suffer from it again! Isn't that a nice feeling?!

What kind of aftercare do you have to do now, and for the next 8 weeks?

Right now my dad has been putting.triple anti biotic cream on gauze putting it on the wound then putting a band aid on that. I'm still taking an antibiotic and I have to go and visit the surgeon some time soon for them to see how I'm healing.

I'm pretty sure that my pediatric surgeon is going to do it. He was the one who started to tell us about it. And he's on the list on this cite just not listed as a cleft lift.

I would try to be firm that a cleft lift -- Bascom's Procedure -- is what you want. If the surgeon tries to talk you out of it, I would suggest you tell him you'll do some research and let him know. No need to rush into anything. A day or two doing research will not hurt you! Be sure you are completely comfortable with what will be done to YOUR body! The choice is YOURS, not the surgeons! You are free to see a different surgeon if you are not happy with what this one suggests!

Do some research so you can discuss this with your doctor in an informed way. He will respect you for that, and you can make the best decision possible for your care.

Above all, be informed! Understand your condition and how it will be treated, and why.

Best of luck! Keep us posted on how things go for you!

I already switched surgeons from one to the one I have. The first one was only going to lance it and be done. Sowe switched to my new surgeon (the one who did the procedure on Friday). He's going to do a cleft lift however I had one Pitt that was really painful so i had to get surgery on it. His name is Dr. Konefal and I recommend him to any one in the MA area who is still in pediatrics.

What surgery did you have done on the one pit that was painful? Was it just to open the cyst, or was it an excision? If it was an excision, is it open or closed?

Dr. Konefal opened the cyst and scooped out all the stuff in there cleaned it out packed it and dressed it. I had to keep the packing and dressing.in for two days then got to take out the packing and just put some triple anti biotic cream on some gauze and put a bandaid on it.

It's defiantly better I wasn't in pain sitting since taking the anti biotics. But when by doctor would push near the cyst it would kill. But no pain from the surgery or anything.

Is it normal for there still to be blood and yellow liquid coming out of my the area of my surgery. The doctor said I had to keep the area covered until stuff stopped coming out. But is it normal for things coming.out a week and 3 days after the surgery?

yep, this link is great for figuring out what is coming out of you during the healing process:

    http://www.pilonidal.org/aftercare/drainage.php

sounds like you're at the serous fluid stage, later you'll get the "fun" of exudate...

I promised I would keep updating everyone. And I went to the doctor today and he said first I shouldn't be worried about liquid coming out however if no liquid comes out then I,should get worried because it could hold bacteria and.then I could absess. Second I go back in 5 weeks for pre OP. And in 6 weeks I'll get the cleft.lift surgery done. However he really didn't say how long recovery time would be. How long is it usually?

    My son's experience -
Thursday, cleft lift surgery done, outpatient, home same day
    Monday, drain removed
    Tuesday, back to school
10 days after drain removed, stitches removed (moderate pain here, I gave prescription pain meds 1 hour before)
3 weeks later, final post-op check up
Healing progressed, without complication or pain, for the next 3 or 4 weeks. No special care required. I think he took ibuprofen a few times for mild discomfort.
    Done.
