Gaby’s story

July 22, 2012

Hello. I’m 16 years old right now. I know this story looks long but I truly believe it’s worth reading.

I first noticed pain when I was about 14. I never gave it thought since it would go away. But then when I was 15, the pain became excruciating. I couldn’t sleep, or lie down, or even walk without extreme pain. My mom took me to the hospital at 2am in the morning. They lanced it for the first time. After that, it kept coming back.

Last year in November, I had it surgically removed. My surgeon left me with an open wound. (JUST LIKE YOU JESS) I believe Jesus died on the cross for our sicknesses. Now, I’m not here to preach the gospel. I just want to share this part of my story to whoever is reading this. I am a dancer in my church. I lead a group of 20 girls from the ages 6-14. I have been leading them for 4 years now. Because of the cyst, I wasn’t able to dance for months, which killed me inside since dancing for my Lord is my one true passion. I’ve been taught that dancing was a way to bring His presence and glory from heaven down to Earth. I don’t take it lightly.

I took a HUGE risk when it came to the New Year celebration in my church. I decided to dance with an open wound in a solo. I’m not going to lie; I was terrified I would hurt myself. But that dance has been my most memorable dance. Just remembering it brings goose bumps and chills. Right after New Year’s, I had a checkup with my surgeon. He started feeling the wound and was shocked. He kept poking at it and poking at it (enough to make it bleed a little), because he just couldn’t believe it, the wound had healed almost completely! He told me I wasn’t supposed to be this far until two months later. Jesus healed me during my dance. I just wish I could share how this feels to me. In all honesty, my life took a 180 degree turn. I will never take dancing for granted or my dance girls. No one else can do this.
