Jess’s story

July 18, 2012

As I write this I am lying slightly uncomfortably in bed dreading getting my wound changed tomorrow. Oh well.

I’m 23 and friday last week noticed I was feeling abit tender. Having been traveling alot that week I figured I had Been sitting down too much and it was my tailbone. Next day noticed a tiny bump and being on holiday decided when I got home the next week would go to the dr but was also embarrassed at the thought of getting my bum out. Anyway the pain got worse and was constantly taking nurofen to get through my day of travel and walking and by Wednesday I couldn’t do anything but lay in bed because the pain was intense and I had ALOT of swelling.

I saw the dr and he gave antibiotics. By the time Friday rolled around I was in excruciating pain (I’ve broken and sprained many bones in my life and this wasnt Even close to the pain I was feeling) and after laying in bed bawling my eyes out all afternoon I went to the dr who told me to go straight to hospital. 6 hours waiting in emergency I was finally looked at and decided next morning I would have surgery as the swelling was too big and local anasthetic wouldn’t work to simply lance the cut.

So 8am I went under and it took about 15 mins and I eventually woke to find myself LAYING ON MY BACK!! (after a week of only being able to sleep painfully on my side I was stoked!) and although sore I already felt less pain. Today is Wednesday and I got my 15cm draining tube taken out and am getting the dressings changed daily. It’s still uncomfortable but nothing compared to what I felt Friday.

I’m lucky the drs saw me as quickly as they did and so thankful the nurses looked after me so well. And I am having a little laugh that I was too scared To see the dr coz I didn’t wanna get my bum out and now about 15 people have seen it,cleaned it, and I am not even phased now haha. Also turns out a few other people have had it but were too embarrassed to say so it’s quite common. I hope someone reads this who thinks they may have it and get it checked out sooner rather than later,it’s obviously not the worst Thing that can happen but it doesn’t mean its pleasant either.
