Lynn’s story

December 16, 2011

My 15 year old daughter said, “Mom, I have a huge hole in my back!” Alarmed and embarrassed, she showed me and I tried to hold in my shock as best I could. It was a hole in her back! I called the doctor right away in a panic and he saw her. He knew right away that it was a pilonidal abscess.

We went directly to the best children’s hospital in our area and the surgeon scheduled surgery. The first surgery was a small incision and healed well. One year, almost to the day, it returned! This time, the surgery was more invasive and she was hospitalized for 3 days. She came home with a drain and a lot of pain meds.

It has been 4 months now and the would finally closed up! She is still cautious about bending/sitting, but so glad she is healing. It has been a long, messy, painful journey for her.

I certainly hope others can gain some hope from her story.
