Right after I graduated high school I started experiencing pain around my tailbone anytime I would sit down or even stand for that long.
I assumed that I had bruised or even broken my tailbone because I had recently gone off roading with friends so I wasn’t that worried about it. It started getting progressively worse and worse so I had to start carrying a doughnut cushion around college. Thank god that I was only attending a community college and still lived home because that would have been a lot harder to deal with if I was on my own.
Anyway about one year after all of this had started to occur the pain started to lessen so I thought my tailbone was finally healing, haha think again.
That summer after 12 hrs of layover I noticed a boil forming on my but. Great, right when my tailbone starts to heal I get a boil. Well it finally popped after a month or so and it continued to leak puss FOR OVER 1 YEAR. My entire community college education along with my first semester at a 4 year university I had to carry gauze on me and change it every 2 hrs or so until this semester ended and my parents said enough .
Well it turned out that I had a pilonidal cyst and what I though was a chronic boil was just the cyst rearing it’s ugly head. I had the open exicision surgery about 2 and a half weeks ago and it’s healing nicely. Im under my parents insurance with kaiser and their entire staff have been great.
Long story short if you think you broke your tailbone get it checked out by a doctor ASAP because it might be a cyst
