So am based in Canada and there are no cleft lift surgeons here. I have been dealing with an open wound since my last wide excision which was July 2018. I'm beyond frustrated at this point and don't know what to do, all docs want to keep cutting me apart.

I thought of going to Dr. Immerman or Dr. Sternberg (in wisconsin/cali respectively). Any thoughts on how they are in terms of surgical ability, i've heard they are experts but testimonials would be nice. Also is there a way to subsidise costs for out of province/country healthcare? Dr. Immerman told me the costs rack upto 15k CAD, then I have to spend about $1k for flights/hotels.. which for a student is a lot.

I understand it's an investment in your health and will pay off in the long run but the number looks huge to me right now. Also it's a lot to take in since I'll be unenrolling from school to recover. Really am just tired of stressing about this, haven't sat comfortably in far too long. All help is appreciated :). At this point I'm willing to take the risk and get this procedure done but I do want to be ready for what's to come (have been reading their sites for more info).

Also any surgeons that are close to Toronto and equally experienced would be nice, don't want to spend a long time on my flight home.

Hey Marvin95, so sorry you're going through this truly horrible disease. There is a list of non USA surgeons on here that perform cleft lifts (if they’re in red from my understanding that means they perform cleft lift surgery). I looked and there seeems to be a handful in Canada. Definitely take a look and hopefully somewhere there can help and you don’t have to travel to the states and pay everything out of pocket. I haven’t had cleft surgery yet (have an appointment with a surgeon here in LA next month) so unfortunately I have nothing to contribute there, however people only say amazing things about both doctors. If my appointment with my doctor next month doesn’t go great or I don’t feel he’s qualified enough I’m going with Sternberg is dan Francisco. Ideally he is my first choice but I would have to travel (an hour flight or 6he drive) and rest up in a hotel there for 5 days at least. Anyway, hope this is helpful and you find relief that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Keep us updated :)

If you can financially manage to see Dr. Immerman or Dr. Sternberg, they would probably be your best option. I researched cleft lift surgeons thoroughly and ultimately decided to go to Dr. Immerman. In terms of surgical ability, your outcome would probably be a success with either surgeon. My experience with Dr. Immerman, his staff, and hospital staff from start to finish was great! Dr. Immerman was extraordinarily accessible... which was very important to me personally. Lodging wouldn’t be nearly as expensive in Eau Claire vs San Francisco. Why do you think you will have to unenroll from school to recover? I think that the recovery from the cleft lift procedure may allow you to return to school much sooner than you think! Any questions...feel free to ask! Good luck!

That's a fair point but I want to ensure I fully recover and don't feel mentally ready for class either. This problem's caused my mental health to get worse because I'm always stressed over it and to gain a lot of weight.

You might also want to consider Dr. Wadie in Raleigh, NC. He would be closer to Toronto than California obviously.
