Cleft lift recovery 12/28/18

#1
I thought I would let everyone know how my surgery went with Dr. Immerman, I’m just a few hours post op and feeling great! We are back at the hotel just tired and sore that’s it! Everyone at the surgical center was so nice and this whole experience has been going well! I had the cleft lift done and so glad I went this route, I don’t have to deal with packing or a open wound! It was worth traveling all the way from Alabama! I’d recommend the cleft lift and Dr. Immerman anyday! We are getting back on the plane Sunday afternoon. This was my first surgery done on my pilondal cyst and hopefully the only one I’ll ever need! To any one considering traveling to have this surgery done I would do it in a heartbeat! So thankful for this forum as well! I will be updating!

Hi Kev,

Please let me know how things are going for you. I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Immerman on January 24th. I had a failed surgery in April and have been dealing with my wound since then. It has been such a nightmare and I’m terrified of having another surgery. However, I’m already EXTREMELY impressed with Doctor Immerman and his staff, so I am very hopeful! I’d love to know how your recovery goes! Good luck to you and I’m so happy you’re feeling good so far.

Thanks,
Katie

Also, if you can tell me anything about the surgery experience I’d love any and all details on what to expect! I’m traveling from Michigan.

Everthing is going good! I’m having alittle discomfort towards the bottom of my incision but doctor said that is normal. I’m taking ibuprofen for pain and that’s it, For me I haven’t been draining much usually around 10cc.. but this is also my first surgery I had done so it may be different for you, but so far the whole experience has been pretty good, it’s day 2 for me and I’ve been walking and sitting a lot today! I am alittle nervous about getting on the airplane tommorow but we will see how it goes! I had a appointment with Dr. Immerman that morning at 10:30 and had surgery at 1pm and everthing went very quick! And also some of the nicest people you will meet! You are making the right decision by getting a cleft lift and choosing one of the best doctors to do it, definitely glad I got it done! Any other questions just ask!

How long were you at the hospital for? Did you have it at oakleaf?
I was at the hospital at 11am right after my appointment with Dr. Immerman surgery was at 1pm and when I woke up it was around 3pm I think, I left the hospital around 5! And I had mine done at sacred heart hospital close to there office!

I would just like to give an update this is day 4 after surgery and still have just alittle bit of pain and discomfort but not much, but I’m still taking ibuprofen and not having to take the pain meds prescribed! The flight home yesterday wasn’t fun but I managed to get through it! My incision is doing great and I had alittle more fluid in my drain this morning I’m guessing it’s becouse of sitting all day becouse of travel yesterday? I’ve been walking and sitting more each day and sitting has been less painful for me than having the cyst! I’ve been changing the gauze each day as well and surprisingly there has been no fluid or blood on the gauze except for some spotting at the bottom of incision! I’m Feeling better each day and hope to get back to my NORMAL self pretty soon and not have to deal with this disease anymore!

Congratulations. I hope everything continues to heal well for you. I'm almost 7 weeks out from seeing Dr. Immerman myself and had the same great experience with him, his staff, and facilities. I think I'm having a minor reaction to the internal sutures, but the excision has mended itself just fine, and I feel fine and strong in the surgery area. I started doing some bodyweight squats and all this week too, and everything is bending and flexing fine.

Like you said, I think you are on your way back to normal.

Everything seems to be going good this is day 6 after surgery and the drain is coming out tonight! Still feel alittle soreness at the incision but I can get by without pain meds or ibuprofen! It seems to be healing good and I’ve been keeping the area real clean! Sitting is fine but still taking it slow when walking!

Hey Katie! Not to discourage but I have had 5 surgeries and 2 draining procedures done because it can flare up again. I came across a doctor two years ago that game me Clamoxin. Which is amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and it cleared my cyst up in a week. Since that time I have had 4 flare ups but the antibiotic always clears it away. I would recommend you give it a go before the surgery. I usually take it at the beginning, so I don’t know how it will affect you since you have had yours for a while but it might be worth the shot.

Hi! Unfortunately, I have a penicillin allergy so that medication is not an option for me. I also was on different antibiotics which cleared my cyst for a short while but it eventually just flares up again. I’m looking for a long term solution and the cleft lift seems to be the best option!

Day 10 has been pretty good, drove around and done some things I can walk normal and sitting is fine but still alittle sore. I sat a lot yesterday and the skin beside my incision has gotten a little swollen I sent some pics to my doctor and he said that is normal and that it was healing good! Sterri strips came off today as well! I’m going back to work Thursday and I’ll be doing a lot of sitting and walking kinda nervous about that!

Everything sounds normal to me. You’re right where you should be. I experienced exactly what you described. Good luck going back to work.

How are you doing? I hope all is well!
I’m doing very well! I haven’t posted much lately haha! I went back to work last week and I do a lot of walking and sitting with my job so it’s been alittle sore when sitting but it is also still swollen alittle, walking full speed now without any discomfort! It’s awesome living life now and not having to worry about the cyst coming back, im still taking it easy sometimes I forget I even had surgery! The incision is healing good. I don’t regret getting this surgery done!

Over a month past my surgery and I’m living life normal again! So thankful I don’t have to worry about this cyst again! It’s still numb around the area but this incision is looking great! Everthing is healed up as it should! The whole healing and recovery process has been pretty easy and painless! No packing or major wound care! If your contemplating on getting the cleft lift done I would recommend traveling to see Dr. Immerman and getting it done the right way!
