Hey Y'all! I'm going to preface this with a warning for mildly graphic descriptions.

Back in October I noticed a painful lump on the base of my spine; near my tailbone where my... Ahem, butt simple is. Now, I've noticed two bumps there before but always thought it was just the curvature of my dimple... Low and behold it turns out to be a Pilonidal cyst... That had formed an ulcer.

I went to the doctor, had it looked at, and was given mupirocen. If it didn't go away in a week I was to come back... And I did. Turns out at the same time I was fighting off two... Err, common female genital infections. There's no real easy way to describe that, is there?

I got prescribed clotrimaderm and Flagyl, and the doc said that flagyl will take care of the Pilonidal cysts ulcer.
Flagyl was a roller coaster and I've aptly named it "hell pill" both for the taste and the side effects... I thought that the cyst was gone for a few weeks, but tonight I noticed a wet spot on my underwear that was only localized where the cyst is... Low and behold it's back. :/ I go into the bathroom and run some toilet paper over it to the best of my abilities, and with some pressure I hear a gross squelch... Thick yellow green mucous on the toilet paper... Yep. Definitely back.
I continued wiping it with other wads of TP and it was just bleeding profusely. My mom took a look at it and said it was pulsing out, but that it wasn't just blood; there was a clear liquid too that was mixing with it.

I can't believe it's back!! I had just gotten over the three infections and good ol' Mr. Pilonidal Cyst comes back for another unwelcomed stay

I've missed so much school already dealing with this and the other infections and now I'll be out another week at least to get it checked out again. Doctor said last time if it doesn't go away he'll have to order an ultrasound to figure out how far it goes.

I just want to get this thing removed. I've read about several different surgeries, but I'm not even sure if it'll be covered here.

My mom and I are in British Columbia, Canada. Close to Vancouver, but in one of the surrounding cities. I'm guessing if I had the surgery done at our local hospital it might be covered under Pharmacare but to be honest, I have no clue.
I'm 18 and I'm still trying to finish highschool-- took a year off for mental health issues and came back last year to an alternative school. This cyst business is really messing up my flow!!

Sorry for the ramble... I really just needed to vent about this.

Edit: We're on our way to the hospital to get it looked at because we really don't know what to do.

Hi ZombieRaptor, I myself have gone/ still going through your same exact situation and close in age at 17, 18 in a month. I missed a lot of school as well and the situation has taken up the past year and a half of my life. I just want to tell you that, you're not alone and that there is great help here. I have some advice, the wet spots were more than likely the cyst drainage and you may have had a fistula as well. Be sure to ask your dr. if you have the symptoms of a fistula. Also, I know it may be a personal question, however I wanna see if you have lots of hair in the area? I myself am a very hairy male at the age of 17 and as soon as Im completely healed im going in for laser hair removal. The re-occurrence sounds like more hair grew there as well as bacteria in my opinion. I would also ask the dr. if you're a candidate for laser hair removal after you are cleared. As for surgery, depending on what the surgery is and the severity of your case it would be very helpful, provided what the dr. says. I hope that your hospital visit went well and that I gave you helpful information. If you have any questions please feel free to pm, would love to help. I hope all goes well for you and i'm very sorry you are going through this as well. Feel free to check out my story, I feel like our cases are similar. Best of luck! - Marc

I seen a YouTube video where the guy used acne pads to wipe the cyst twice a day and it cleared up. My Dr. wanted to drain my PC but I asked if I could start with antibiotics for a few days. I took meds, hot, hot baths daily, and wiped the cyst with the acne pads twice a day. Within 4-5 days it was gone. Dried up. Never went back to Dr. The brand I used : Oxy acne medicine 3 in one pads. Good luck.

    Hi, Marc :)

First of all, thank you for your reply. It's nice to know of someone close in age who is also going through this.
I will definitely ask my doc about the possibility of a fistula next time I see him! Thank you for mentioning that.

To answer your question, I do seem to have some hair there; to the extent I'm not sure... I have hirsutism so I'm sure I have more than average for a woman my age lol

The hospital visit went very well, and the ER doc was very nice about this. He excersized some fluid from the cyst and confirmed that it is indeed a Pilonidal cyst. He put me on antibiotics and sent a referral to a local surgeon who handles stuff like this. I'm looking forward to meeting her and discussing the surgery options! :)
