Going on holiday with an open wound

#1
I am going to Mexico on the 9th September and still currently have a wound which requires daily packing and dressing. My partner is happy to do this while we are away and I have the relevant insurance which cover this condition.

But I want to know, has anyone been on holiday with this and is it a good idea?

Thanks

I went to Kos on holiday last year and had a wound which required daily packing and dressing. The nurses said to avoid swimming in case of infection but I did swim in the sea without any issues. I changed the dressing and packing twice a day myself. Just make sure you take plenty of extra dressings with you to last for the whole holiday. I honestly didn’t have any issues at all. Go for it! Have a great holiday!

Hi glad I could help. Travelling with a pilonidal sinus isn’t ideal but I managed. I just had to get up a few times on the flight as the seats on planes aren’t particularly comfortable. I took plenty of painkillers for if I needed them. I used to shower and do my dressing in a morning before we went anywhere, leave that dressing on all day, then when we got back in the evening, I had another shower and put a clean dressing on. It’s not ideal but I didn’t let it ruin my holiday. As long as you keep the wound covered it should hopefully prevent any infection.

That’s great thank you. That is the normal routine I do anyhow and my partner will be packing it, I have the relevant insurances that cover this condition. What would you think about swimming in the pool and sea?

I swam in both the sea and swimming pool and didn’t have an issue. I don’t think you’ll have any problems at all. I just wasn’t going to let my wound spoil my holiday.

Ok that’s good to hear that the pool didn’t effect you as it’s a big part of the holiday!! Thank you so much for your help it’s massively appreciated

I hope you enjoy your holiday. I’m facing my fourth procedure in a few weeks so haven’t been able to book a holiday this year. It’s important not to let this condition rule our lives. I refuse to let it get in the way of living my life as much as possible. A positive outlook always helps.

So sorry I haven’t replied having a family crisis at the moment. As for doing any activities in the water, I didn’t do any but there is no reason why you shouldn’t if you want to. It’s all about how you feel. I don’t think it would do any harm anyway. Hope you have a great holiday!
