I was diagnosed recently with having a pilonidal cyst & I had the cyst drained in the doctors office. The wound was stuffed with dressing and I was placed on antibiotics. My doctor has advised me that I am going to need to have the surgery once I heal... In the interim I have a home care nurse that changes the dressing in my wound daily...and it hurts like hell to say the least. It hurts to the point that I am screaming and crying each time its done. I have never felt this type of pain in my life and from a scale of 1-10 the pain is a 10. Since the cyst has been drained I'm no longer in pain however the only time I feel pain is when the nurse changes my dressing. Both the nurse and I believe that I should not be in the amount of pain that I am in when my wound dressing is changed. One nurse suggested that the doctor cut a nerve or that their is still more in there. My doctor refuses to prescribe me anything for the pain and thinks I should take an OTC pain medication. I have tried to take OTC medications and tried a few home remedies I found on the web however nothing works. My question is....is it normal to feel immense pain when changing the wound dressing? And do Doctor's typically prescribe pain medication after the cyst has been drained and lanced? If so what kind?

When my journey first began my nurse told me to take 2 x paracetamol and 2 x ibuprofen at the same time. The different painkillers target different areas.
    Hope this helps.
