Post surgery.. healing question

I noticed I had a pilondial cyst in the very end of May and got it drained at a dermatologist a few days later. Then, everything was fine, I had no pain, but then I noticed that it was still coming back. So I went to a surgeon and he surgically removed the rest of it in the end of June. It has been almost 3 weeks now.

My surgeon said that the incision was a lot smaller than he thought it needed to be and it should heal quickly. I got internal stitches and external stitches. No packing, just put gauze on it with bacitracin for the first 5 days.

However, about 2 weeks into the healing process I noticed that the incision started draining out of a small hole at the top of where the incision was made and it is a yellow fluid, doesn't smell. I went to the doctor and he said it's normal and not to worry. I see the doctor again on Tuesday. I've been seeing him once a week so he can check on it and he says it is healing well. In my most recent visit, he took out the external stitches. I have been keeping it very clean and wash it everyday. I also keep a gauze on it because of the oozing. The surgeon and nurse practicioner say that this is good because it is preventing an abscess from forming.

I'm just really frustrated because it doesn't seem like the drainage is lessening at all and it's been happening for about a week now. Has anyone else experienced this? I go back to school at the end of august away from home and I just want it to be done by then.

**UPDATE** I saw the doctor today. The wound opened a little so now I have to start packing it. They told me it wasn't too deep though. Has anyone experienced this? Most of the wound is healed but some of it opened where sutures used to be. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from opening more?

Heya,

I had a cleft lift so it was closed up like yours. However, the wound slightly reopened due to an infection (1 out of 10 cases) so the doc gave
me antibiotics and he reopened the wound himself, only slightly to let it drain.
The actual flap for me was in tact, so the breakdown was only a 1-2 cms deep which i packed for 2-3 weeks and in total took 4 weeks to close up.
The rest of your wound which has now closed also shouldn't open up if the stiches have dissolved.
Discharge is normal after the op, usually just old blood and it can be a lot but if its yellow etc it may an infection like what i had.
Sounds like your healing well, it also seems like its exactly what i went through! almost there, best of luck

Hi! I don't think it's infected, I feel like the doctor would have said something/given me antibiotics like yours did if it was. But if it is, it doesn't sound like the healing process will be too bad, which definitely is reassuring. It's healing quite fast ever since I started packing; only a small hole is left where it is draining! Thank you for your help! :)
