Small wound at bottom of cleft lift

#1
Hi - I underwent a cleft lift procedure 3 weeks ago, and have had a small breakdown/opening at the bottom of the wound.

I have seen the consultant surgeon who performed the operation, who is a leading UK surgeon in her field in this area based in the South of England, and she wasn't too concerned - removing some stitches, and was optimistic it will heal. This is great news and a bit of a relief!

I just wanted to ask, as it seems like a stubborn area to heal - what has helped you to heal this area in the past?

I am rolling up gauze and taping it in place - would anything else help?

Has anyone tried Aquacel and/or Medihoney with strong results at a similar stage of recovery?

Thanks,
JB

Yes this is normal

I had the operation done by Senapati also.
It took me around 3 months post op to fully heal. So have patience with it

All the best

Thanks Luke - it's been 3 months for me now, but still not healed. In conversations with Senapati re. a second operation.

Any tips on how to get it to heal would be greatly appreciated!

Hi jawbone and Luke

if I might ask - was this your 1st pilonidal sinus surgery? And if you don't mind - how close to the back passage area did the disease spread before you got surgery? Mine is very close to anus (previous surgery wound ends 1cm above it) and I'm curious if anyone had this kind of PS successfully treated with cleft lift in Europe/UK.

Thanks and all the best

I used rolled up gauze to get a bit of seperation between the cheeks down there.

I also sprinkled a tiny bit of table salt directly on the wound a few times. This made the wound bleed and look worse initially but in the long run seem to dry the wound and encourage healing! I actually think this helped alot. I believe when the wound is small and flat.. Keeping it dry is key. Just my opinion

This was my second surgery.

First surgery was open excision wound wasn't that close to anus. This was unsuccessful

Second surgery was cleft lift and left a pretty big scar. Maybe half an inch from anus. All healed after 3 months or so

Hi Jawbone_99,

Did the opening ever heal or did you have to arrange another surgery. I am in the same situation at the moment. I am going to see my surgeon miss Senapati next week so hope fully it's being caused by a loose stitch or something.
