1 Year Post Cleft Lift

This community was a great help back when I was struggling with pilonidal disease, so I wanted to share my experience here in case it could benefit others. I decided to go with the cleft lift surgery about a year ago and haven't had an issue since fortunately. I didn't want to celebrate too early; that's why I waited a year before leaving this post :).

I have resumed all activities like rock climbing and jiu-jitsu for a few months now. I can't say I'm completely past the trauma of pilonidal sinus, so probably the one thing I'm going to continue avoiding post-op, is wearing tight clothing.

I had my surgery with Dr. Lambert in the DFW area. I'll try to be active here for a while in case anyone has any questions. Thank you all!

Yeah I meant to say I would wear loose clothing after surgery. One thing worth mentioning is that I didn't even realize how tight my jeans were until I tried them on after surgery and saw how uncomfortable they were.

Wishing you a speedy recovery! I know those first few weeks can be nerve-racking, and personally, I was anxious to resume all activities after a couple months. Try to take it easy and hopefully there will be no further complications.

At least 8 hours a day for work and even more sitting afterward. I have a height adjustable desk, so I gradually eased myself into sitting for longer periods as opposed to standing. I don't feel any pain or numbness anymore.

Yep, I feel completely normal. Maybe up to 8 months the area would have still felt weird at times depending on the activity, but it feels completely normal now. I resumed rock climbing (bouldering mainly) after 3 months and resumed jiu-jitsu after 7 months. Both activities involve falling on the matt on my back :)
I resumed rock climbing after consulting my doctor on my last checkup, and he told me it's ok to resume jiu-jitsu as well as long as it's comfortable, but I wanted to wait longer for jiu-jitsu. So, anyone reading this, please consult your doctor before starting more intense activities. The healing process can be different for each person.

Did you have stitches? I had glue. I am 16 days post op cleft lift surgery and recovery has been slow going. My incision has a pea size split in it. I’m anxious that it is not going to close.

I had glue as well. At only 17 days post op, I'd assume there is still a layer of glue above the skin (which wasn't obvious to me until the glue was coming off), which can be discolored with the mix of the clotting underneath. So, it might appear that your skin isn't healing because you only see the glue on top. All that being said, if there's been active leaking that you've noticed or if you have any concerns, have your doctor examine it if you haven't already.

Yes to both, but now I avoid wearing tight jeans or tight clothing in general for long periods of time because I suspect they might be a contributing factor to the sinus forming. I'm no expert though, so take that with a grain of salt.

I called my surgeon’s office because the glue has come off on the top of that part of the incision. I probably would have benefitted from a drain considering the amount of fluid that drained from the incision and wore down the glue.I am hoping to get in this week to get his opinion. Thank you for your response!
