Just had my surgery today. I was the only one on her list at the Spire! Can you believe it? I expect it was a case no one wants to do it during August on account of school holidays.

She said it went ok and was successful. Apparently took out 4 pits! Now starts the long journey of recovery. No exercise for 8 weeks according to the post op care! This sucks!

Nice one. On the plus side you'll never have to deal with this again. Just a bit of recovery and fixed. Did you have general anaesthetic?

Fingers crossed this is it mate. Don’t know, you can never say with this horrendous disease!

Yes they put me under sedation - the anaesthetics really were on point. Senapati got right to business and got the job done it seems. Just need to recover now - bloody pain in the arse (quite literally).. this is the part I dread and worth the most about!!!

Mate - how did you put the dressing on each day? Like I mean do you pack the would with gauze and then put a big plaster on? Or is it loose after you’ve put the dressing on?

Have you got any openings?

I had a small split at the bottom of my scar, I put a small piece of guaze inside the wound to pack it out (depending on size of opening, mine was 1cmx1cm) then dressing on top. Obviously make sure its very clean with water and hibiscrub. Used cotton pads to apply. This took a couple months to heal.

Saline pods for wound washing is even better than water, can pick these up on amazon.

If no openings, I would just clean and apply a dressing

I have a small wound on the side of the cleft where the original cyst would form and then now after the first surgery where the infection/discharge was recurring.

She has made a cut to remove any infected tissue and left it open and then removed pits from the cleft and stitched those up.

Thanks for the response. I’ll use sterile water to clean the wound and pack it with gauze. Do you try and make the dressing as tight as possible so the gauze doesn’t move around?

She told me its normal for a small split to appear. Rare to not have one - so dont worry. I'd just put dressing on how you feel comfortable, not crazy tight - just so its secure

No worries, let me know how it goes mate
Hey mate - I am sorry to bother you but I have a question re recovery. so my open wound has healed but where the pit was excised there is a small hole still there after nearly 4 weeks. Did you have any pits and did this happen to you?

I had 4 pits, 3 are fully closed but one still has some small hole to be filled/ covered with new skin..

I'm not sure about pits.

I did have a small wound at the bottom of my surgery which lasted a few months after 1x1cm. Told by Senapati that this happens 90% of the time and it eventually heals up.

When's your next follow up appointment? How big is the hole.
