Anyone with stitch abscess issues? Post cleft lift

Hello!

I know I’ve read in the forum before about some who have had issues with some internal stitches popping out, but I can’t seem to find them. So I apologize for the possible duplicate question below :)

I followed up with Dr. Caplan about a week ago (everything is healing very well, yay) I had a small tiny hole right above my opening where the bottom stitches came apart, he saw two internal stitches popping out (the knot wasn’t dissolving). He removed them and said it should close pretty quickly. It is about the size of a q-tip( looks like a crater to me ;) ).

My question is, how long did it take for the others who have experienced this, to heal? The bottom wound is roughly half the size it was and healing is going really well, so just wondering how long for that particular part to close also. Still draining slightly some sero-sang, but each day seems to get less and less.

Thanks in advance for any input, just curious :)

Hi Hopeful,

I'm interested in hearing the answer to your post. My son, 23 yrs old, had pilonidal surgery last Friday and his surgeon closed the wound with stitches. His doctor did tell us that it is common for stitches to pop open. We are praying that his stitches do not and he is laying down most of the day to keep that from happening. Time will tell.

Hi Hopeful,

I had a similar issue post cleft lift in the UK.

It healed over very quickly (cannot remember how long exactly - but around 2/3 weeks) - the main thing is not to worry yourself!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi, where did you got it operated in uk? I am from Reading and my pilonidal sinus surgery was done last week and they closed it with stitches but after a week it started little bit pinkish bleeding and pus coming out of it. Is that normal and have you experienced the same? I don’t know wether mine was cleft lift or normal surgery neither doctors told me. Doctor suggested me to sit in salted water for 20 minuets daily, have you done that? I am scared of doing that. Please help. Thanks

Hi there,

I had my 2nd op in Portsmouth with Miss Senapati. This was after my initial op was unsuccessful.

A week is very early days. My first operation was unsuccessful because it ran very close to my anus. There was no air in the area and was therefore prone to infection.

Hope this helps, but as I said, one week is very very early days.

How you getting on Hopeful?

Pretty good! It was pretty deep apparently (they were internal stitches so I guess it would be) but is healing very well :) Both my surgeon and the wound care specialist I’ve been following up with said it should be closed by the end of this coming week or the next. It’s been crazy to see how much my own body can do healing wise with the proper diet, hydration and supplements!!

I’m nervous to get too excited about it closing because this has been such a long road but I can’t wait for packing and dressing changes to be behind me!!! Haha
