Draining abscess

My son was diagnosed with PD recently. He had a abcess near tailbone which started draining. Took him to the PCP ,she drained the abscess , gave him antibiotics .. it’s been 2 months since and the abcess keeps draining everyday . It hasn’t healed . Ther did not pain . Is this normal ? Are these signs of an advanced disease needing surgery? I was hoping somethng less invasive could work for him.

It will likely take a treatment like pit-picking or one of the surgical options to cure the disease. My son's was self-draining but didn't cause any pain, we tried pit-picking initially but the sinus never closed. We finally went with the cleft lift, my concern being that he would continue to have tunnelling. I would suggest getting a referral to a colorectal surgeon to evaluate the area. Pilonidal disease is something they are familiar with. The usual first option is excision of the sinus which involves surgery.
