First time pilonidal

I have had painless lump on my tailbone for a month, and like many others initially tried to ignore it. On Friday I searched the Internet to determine what it might be, discovered it could be pilonidal cyst, I therefore examined my self in the mirror and found the sinus almost in the same position as the lump. On Saturday, while in the bath I gently squeezed the lump and pulled the clump of hair out of the sinus, then shaved the area, and will go to my Doctor on Monday.
I was wondering how severe the surgery would be to close the sinus? And if I continue to remove hair and use antibacterial cleanser, will the pilonidal cyst resurface?
Thanks, Ed
