I am having surgery on Friday to remove the pilonidal cyst that I have. I have had lancing done before and this time it is not infected so they are going to try to remove the whole cyst during a surgery with local anestecia and IV sedation.

This is my QUESTION:

The Doctor said that he has done plenty of this surgerys and that he never tells the patients to pack the wound (Meaning inserting the gauze into the open wound after surgery) but just shower, and put a gauze on top but not sticking it in at all. He said in the end it is the same result as if you packed it.

ANY IDEAS OR OPINIONS OR EXPERIENCE ON THIS?

I know from other Doctors I have talked to that the importance of packing it is so that it heals from the inside out and not the other way around, but of course it is EXTREMELY PAINFUL- so in a way it would be great not to pack it, but I would feel much more confident if I could get your opinions on this or even better your experience.

Thank you so much,

Elena
