Need some clarity on order of treatment

I got diagnosed with pilonidal cyst. Today is day 2 since the diagnosis.

I've been reading information on this website and others, and feel confused about what needs to be done. Could someone please tell me if this is the order in which one should proceed, or correct me if I am wrong?

1. Antibiotics - my doctor advised a week of these before moving to the next option.
2. Draining the cyst - one of the following procedures is recommended - pit removal, GIPS, EPSIT - to prevent recurrence.
3. If the cyst keeps recurring, then an excision surgery. Cleft lift is ideal, else traditional excision surgeries with open or closed healing.

The confusion is that some of the members here have been to step 3 right after step 1 it seems, while in other places some people seem to have been to step 2 without staying on step 1.

I am also confused on this. Especially: should you have it lanced first and then only have surgery if it recurs, or just skip right to surgery to prevent additional scar tissue and aggravation of the area?

The way I understand it "draining the cyst" is only something that is done with a procedure called Incision and Drain.

I would put "pit picking " techniques in a separate category altogether. Maybe call it low intervention category.

Interesting question. I wonder what the stats are on the number of people who have their cyst lanced and then never go on to have a recurrence.

My guess is that number of people is low because the lancing does not remedy the source of the cyst which is the sinus.
