My History:
  • 2 years ago noticed painful lump, and of course turned out to be pilonidal
  • over the 2 years the lancing never fully closed
  • my sinus developed to be severe by 4 different doctors' classifications
    • draining out of original lance and severe flare ups where I could barely sit
    • new pits developed
    • sinus got so backed up it developed a new sinus near my anus just to drain
I simply refused to get a major procedure to be done - insert Dr. Lipskar's pit picking magic. 2 weeks post opp and already healed and back to pre-pilonidal normal. I know there is a chance of recurrence so knock on wood, but I would HIGHLY suggest doing pit picking before going into anything serious - trust me mine was a very complicated case and was still able to do a non-invasive surgery. Happy to answer any questions, hope this helps someone.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Yours is the first where I've found someone else whose lancing (I&D) took longer than the 2-4 weeks it is meant to. I can't imagine dealing with the daily dressings for 2 years straight. It's been 3 months for me, and I'm miserable. I can't really afford to take the time off for a bigger procedure, because I have uni in a week. Any advice on how to make sure the wound stays clean and infection free? I've already been told by my doctor that there is a chance this will never heal, and they keep pushing me to take a gap semester to get excision surgery. I know that I can take a gap semester, but I'm worried to lose that much time, and would rather change my own dressings at uni. Also just to clarify you got the pit picking procedure even though it had been more than 10 days since you got your lancing? I didn't know that was possible.
