Post-Clift Lift Surgery Drainage

I have struggled with Pilonidal disease for almost 20 years. I had two sinus tracts that continued to get infected. I had the cleft lift surgery about 9 days ago and I feel like the second week has started rather bad with an increase of clear draining fluid and some blood coming from the incision. I feel like the first week was easy compared to this week. I can feel the incision oozing all day long and it is unnerving. I contacted my surgeon’s office yesterday, sent a picture, and they said it is normal. They also said to keep it clean and dry but do not sit or spread my cheeks. It just does not feel or sound right based on what I have been reading. I did not have a drain put in so I can understand why I am having drainage. I went to a highly recommend colorectal surgeon. The follow up by my surgeon post operation has been awful though. I am just worried that all this oozing is going to delay my healing. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do?

I have not had this procedure but rather another flap procedure. The surgeon inserted a drain for my procedure.

I am sorry to hear that you aren't getting the attention you need right now. Is there a personal friend or family member (someone not having to physically recover right now!) that can call the office for you and advocate on your behalf? If the surgeon isn't available, is there a nurse practitioner around?

It finally stopped oozing fluid the day after I posted but then the incision started to bleed. It is looking better today, but if I have anymore fluid or blood by the 14 day mark, a family member is going to go to my surgeon’s office to make an appointment since I cannot get past the answering service. What kind of procedure did you have done?

That sounds like a plan.

I had a Limberg Flap procedure done. Prior to that I had an open wound excision performed but then I had a recurrence.

I had my cleft lift surgery done on Oct 19th, which sounds like it may have been the same day you did. They put a drain in and there was about 25-30ml of fluid in the drain each day for about week when it removed. I am sorry to hear that you are having this issue, I thought a drain was standard with a cleft lift. I would think it will work itself out, however just probably be a bit more painful and perhaps take a bit longer to heal.

Thanks! This is super helpful. It would make sense why I am experiencing the oozing of the fluid. I am curious why my doctor did not put in a drain in to help with this issue. Are you able to sit at all? My surgeon prohibited me from sitting too. It’s so uncomfortable.

I can sit for about 20-30 minutes then I have to switch positions, as it gets uncomfortable and starts to ache. Other than that doing alright.

I'm satisfied so far, Dr. Wadie said it's about 98% effective, so he could not promise no reoccurence. I'm not sure any Dr can promise no reoccurence.
