Alexa’s story

February 25, 2017

Hello Eveyone, I am a 23 year old female. I unfortunately got my first pilonidal cyst in August 2014. I had to have it excised and packed for a week. Boy oh boy was that hell, to say the least. Almost a year later (the week I graduated from college) another one of those suckers popped up. I had no choice but to miss my last week because of having it excised and having to pick the wound 2x a day. (I still walked… with gauze stuffed in my crack) Well, a year later, here comes another one. Go figure. So, I had it excised and did the packing again and scheduled a pilonidal cystectomy a month later. May 2016. Well, the wound itself, had to be packed twice a day and finally closed up in early September. Now, my problem is, it’s been almost a year and I’m still in pain that hinders me from sitting in classes so I’ve had to revert to all online classes. I’ve been to my surgeon, chiropractor, physical therapist, colorectal surgeon, 3 different regular doctors, and just yesterday I had a steroid shot and if anything, it made it worse. I’ve been on hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol, and I’ve tried ibuprofen and Tylenol. Nothing helps but oxycodone. I’m running out of ideas and I don’t want to have to depend on taking oxycodone for much longer. I don’t think anyone understands how awful this pain is. I’ve asked my colorectal surgeon to do a procedure to remove the majority of the scar tissue but he says “it looks perfect, I don’t see why you’d be in this much pain?”. Does anyone have any ideas? I am truly desperate. I feel like I’ve exshusted all of my options, other that ultrasound and MRI and my pharmacy thinks I’m a drug addict. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! Thank you in advance.
