I first noticed it a week before Christmas, but held off on going to the doctor until New Years Eve because I was sure that the discharge and blood was just coming from a cut.
Nothing prepared me for learning that I had a HOLE in my body, and at that, one that was infected and needed medicine right away. First I took antibiotics four times a day for a week, then once the week was up and no change was made, I took a different antibiotic four times a day for 5 days. When I went back to the doctor, she told me that “it really should have cleared up by now” (which is always helpful to hear). She then prescribed a topical cream, and informed me that if the cream didnt work, then there was nothing else she could do for me, and would have to send me to a different doctor.
My one question after all of this? Why was my doctor not concerned enough in the beginning about my cyst to send me to a doctor who specialized in colon and rectal issues? Even a dermatologist would have been helpful. I am now waiting on my next doctors appointment to find out if I need surgery or not.
Please, if you think that you have a pilonidal cyst, GO TO THE DOCTOR.
