Hey guys, I just wanted to share my story to encourage anyone who is suffering from a pilonidal cyst. I am happy to say that it has been ten months since my pilonidal surgery and I have been healthy as a horse ever since! Having a pilonidal cyst was one of the most painful and embarrassing things I’d ever experienced.
I had to go to the hospital to get the cyst lanced and it was pretty painful. It didn’t help that my doctor didn’t have a great bedside manner. Post surgery I was still in pain for a while, and had to have the dressing in my wound changed daily for a few weeks. Throughout all of this, I kept reading statistics about how pilonidal disease is often a recurring problem and I was scared to DEATH that it would happen to me again. But it hasn’t. I am perfectly fine.
I think anyone can recover from this condition and stay recovered. I always pay special attention to cleaning “that area” throughout the day, just by wiping it with a baby wipe or damp tissue. So anyway, moral of the story is- you WILL get through this. It is OK! And before you know it you will be back in action. I remember when the pilonidal cyst was so painful that I could barely walk, but now I’m training for a half marathon! It feels great!
