Hi everyone, I thought I?d share my butt story since reading through this forum has been helpful! I?m 26, and for me it started around July 2017 when I noticed a little red bump back there kinda halfway between my tailbone and my pooper. It was a little itchy but I thought maybe it was just a blister or something and forgot about it. By September it became a tiny hole (it had burst). It got itchier and would start to discharge blood and pus (just a little bit), usually following a bowel movement. I also have IBS so I still wrote it off as some weird symptom, and thought if I just kept it clean, it would heal on its own. It didn?t! My boyfriend got concerned since he insisted on having a look at it and told me he could sort of see there was hair down in there! I scheduled an appt with my doctor in January 2018 and she diagnosed me with a pilo, and referred me to a surgeon. I saw my surgeon, and actually the first thing he did was shave a little, yank out some of the hair (SO painful), then to top it off, put silver nitrate on it to get it to close up. I have rarely experienced that level of pain. He also gave me antibiotics. The pain from the silver nitrate faded by the next day (thank GOODNESS). And after a couple days on the antibiotics, I felt much much better. It would still get a little itchy and weird sometimes but not nearly as bad. I then had my surgery on April 11. Other than having a bad reaction to anesthesia (the nurse said it?s common for women to be nauseous and feel badly), it went well. My incision is about 3-4 inches long, but no stitches, just some kind of suturing in little segments. Sitting was very difficult for the following few days, even with the special coccyx pillow, so mostly I laid on my stomach or side. My mom helped me by changing the outer bandage, but I left the surgical tape on as instructed. Definitely needed the stool softeners since my IBS was kicked into high gear from all the stress of the surgery. Eventually that returned to normal too, though. I had a one-week post op where my surgeon removed the final bandage and said everything looked good! I returned to work the following week which for me involves a lot of driving (travel). I am still using the pillow and I try to shift around to sit sort of sideways to keep pressure off. I did notice some blood back there later last week, and after my helpful boyfriend had a look, he said it looked like I popped a couple of the sutures! I?ve been cleaning thoroughly and no hair has grown back so I?m assuming the driving just took its toll. In the meantime, I?m finding daily showering and using witch hazel (they?re actually hemorrhoid wipes lol) is helping to keep things clean and closed back there. There?s some itching, but it may just be the scab forming or getting pulled off when I move. I have a second follow up in a couple weeks so ideally my surgeon will give me a professional opinion. I do believe my boyfriend that it?s just a couple popped sutures since he said it looks very different from the hole I had from the cyst. Time will tell! If anyone has had a similar experience with popping sutures, I?d love to hear what they did to help! Cheers.
