Ok where do i begin, lol… It all started 6 years ago when i was 18 developed a red bumb about the size of a quarter on my tailbone, i didn’t think much of it at first until i noticed a few months later i had a couple of pin head sized holes down below on my actual butt crack and knew something wasn’t right.
I went to my doctor and they told me right away that it was the beginning stages of a pilonidal cyst, at this time i had never heard of such a thing before so i was pretty confused as to what it was. My doctor recommended slicing the outer layer of skin and letting it drain and release the pressure. So that’s what happened. Soon after i noticed this thing was not going away. It leaked everywhere all over my clothes, i was extremely self conscious about it, it hurt to sit and i wanted it gone.
My doctor then suggested having the cyst cut out of me and the “tracts” removed. So that’s what happened. I had never experienced such a painful bodily experience in my entire life, but to me, having the surgery was worth not dealing with it for the rest of my life. The surgeon stitched me up and left an inch-wide hole open at the top for drainage and to allow it to breathe. So after surgery i was pretty much bed ridden for 3 weeks or so. After weeks of painful packing with gauze twice a day it finally started to get better, until about a year later it returned… In a different spot… And was not cery happy about it. I needed to go in again for a third procedure. This one was alot like the last, except this time it got infected underneath the part that was stitched up so i had to go to the ER and have yet ANOTHER procedure done to open up my stitches and remove the pocket of infection.
At this point my sugeon figured it would be best to leave it open and do an “open healing”… This is what i am currently recovering from, after the infection was removed everything seems to be going well. I am not in alot of pain and not needing to take much pain meds at all. I am hoping after this i will be done with this horrible experience, i am SO over this lol… The whole point of me telling this story though is to remind the ones dealing with this and the reoccurrence that there is hope.
No matter how sick and tired you get just keep doing what you have to to get rid of this beast that has disrupted so many of our lives, even if that means 4 surgeries. Keep strong!!! Don’t give up!! And don’t let it win!
