Jada’s story

October 9, 2014

I had my first occurrence at age 20. I thought it was just a one time deal. I had two roommates who both confessed to getting these boils, but it was just a one time thing for them. Now I’m 25, I’m suffering from my fifth one. They come in twos, one right after the other with as long as two yrs without anything. I am not convinced that it is caused by hair. They occur in me after injury to the tailbone. At first it feel like my tailbone is bruised, and then it feels like a burn deep inside. And I can’t sleep, eat, sit, drive, think, I get dizzy and confused and weak and all my muscles start aching. Then everything else in my body gets infected too. Yeast infection, bladder infection, respiratory infection, fever, sometimes vomiting.

Nothing is visible for about four days, and then it looks blotchy and purplish like a bruise. It has an odor before it even opens, and of the five cysts I’ve had to be lanced six times. They are deep and never drain on their own. The pain is worse than childbirth. The anesthesia does nothing, I tell them not to even do it anymore. It’s rough having this disease. Only my fiancé and my mom know about it in my personal life. It’s repulsive. I go to college and I see so many beautiful carefree girls and I wish so badly I could be one of them again. Instead I limp around in baggy clothes, always worried about my dressings showing, having not had the energy to even shower or put makeup on when it’s full blown.

I feel like even the people I’ve confided in don’t get it. They look at me like I’m gross, they think I’m being a wimp about the pain. It’s worse than childbirth it’s worse than anything I’ve ever felt. To make yourself lay still while while a drs cuts into infected tissue, breaks all the chamber walls, squeezes it, and packs it is probably the greatest feat of mind over matter I will ever accomplish. They tell me it takes four nurses to hold patients down sometimes. And everyone expects you to go about your daily life when life inside your body is shutting down.

I’m terrified of the surgery options, sooo many forums of people who had recurrences after year long recovery periods. I heard they started using fibrin glue to fill the sinus, just an injection out patient procedure. I heard it works. I wish more than anything this would go away. I don’t get it, I’m a healthy hygenic skinny female…I work out, I don’t eat fast food, I play by all the rules, yet I have suffer from this disgusting disease. Why
