jan’s story

November 29, 2011

Two years ago I started o get boils and had had cysts on my ovaries. I guess I was a cysty person. Then over night a butt pimple turned into a hot large hard area on my bum. I went to the medi centre, but they immediately sent me to emergency. After a short period of time I got in and they lanced me right away. then 2 months later i had surgery where I had to heal from the bottom up. It was the most pain i had had…. even worse than child birth as it kept going on and on. My hole was quite large and I got the hospital bug 3 times during the healing process.

As soon as I came home I got a phone call and the home care person came out, everyday for 4 months. Changing the dressing and trying to figure out why it was not healing. They used mesalt ans silver to draw out the infection. Towards the end of the months, they gave me a vac which was great. it made it heal much quicker, I only had it for one week, but what a difference. I agree with people that the after care is important. The nurses would measure the progress daily and help out when i needed more hospital care. I also was in bed for many many months as it was too painful to move. they had me on many drugs, which then made me constipated, and also morphine.

Atll I can say is to ell family and close friends, because it can be very lonely up in your room by yourself, while the rest of your family has to keep on living. I am finally bonding with my daughter who could not touch mommy for the whole second year of her life. I hate this disease, but then i think about all the good events and people that have been in my life and how lucky I am to be in a country that has free medicare and homecare. I continue to have tenderness and still on occasionally cry about my pity party.

All I can suggest is to talk to family and friends about what you are going though… support is key…. as is a house cleaner and a wonderful husband. I wish peace to everyone and that you will find a solution to your personal pain. I forgot to add that the infection was going into my spinal cord and so they had to take off a part of my tail bone. This has caused a lot of problems, so I need to sit up on my sits bones and be conscious of my sitting habits.
