robert’s story

September 8, 2013

Hey everybody, So I figured id share my story with pilonidal disease. I got my 1st bump when I was stationed at ft bliss, tx. I didnt think nothing of it even as it continued to get larger and more tender. Finally one day at work it burst on its own and bleed all the way through my underwear leaving a noticable spot on my uniform. Best part of my day was asking my Sgt if I could go change and him asking if I had started my period(im male). So anyways I go home shower clean it best I could and forgot about it. It was maybe a month before I started to feel another one start.

This time went to sick call and found out I had a pilonidal cyst. They I&D it and again figured end of story. Only problem is they kept coming back. I had maybe 12 in less than 6mths. Finally its surgery time. They cut me open and clean out the tracts and anything else down there. Slap a wound vac on me and send me on my way. After all that it was only 6 mths before I got another one. Even after electrolysis and surgery this lil bastard still came back.

Not wanting surgery again I just frequent sick call when I need an I&D. Year and a half pass by countless cysts and I&D. It got so bad that id swear every medic at ft bliss has seen my ass. Well I get transferred to ft stewart ga expecting to do the same thing. Big difference is dr in ga doesnt care to continuously deal with so they start to medically chapter me out of the Army.

So after 5 years of service and becoming a sgt I get forced out over a cyst on my butt. Only bright point is VA covers everything now and just had my 2nd surgery on 8/15 wearing the wound vac now and hoping for the best.

Well thats my story. Sorry for typos but I typed this on my phone.
