im 23yrs old. i had my first and only flare up March 11 2011. i thought it was a turned hair or something but by sunday i was in severe pain and had a fever. I went to urgent care the next day. the doctor thought it was pilonidal and they cut it open and drained as much as they could and packed it. i had to return every 2 days for cleaning.
i was also referred to a colon and rectal specialist where he confirmed i indeed have pilonidal disease. he says i need surgery. im scared to death. i was in pain during my flare up and i cant imagine what its going to be like when i do have surgery.
