AF’s story

October 2, 2013

Just found this site while looking up ways to better the healing process. I had recently just got my pilonidal cyst/abscess removed.

First time I had the cyst was roughly 8 months ago. (I blame my mother for this happening to me, seeing as she’s had the same problem -_-). I refused to get surgery done at the time and had taken antibiotics instead (which worked within a weeks time)and the cyst went away. The doctor had warned me that it will most likely come back again. Before i had found out what exactly it was that caused my tailbone so much pain, i thought i had fractured it. But nope.. The first time didn’t hurt nearly as bad as the second time (the one i had just gotten removed), but it definitely did hurt. Leaving me unable to sit, or lay on my back, and it hurt to walk.

As for the one i had just gotten removed… worst pain i have ever endured in my life.. Worse than breaking arms i must say, and i’ve broken my arms 3 times. I couldn’t sleep due to being in so much pain, wasn’t able to lay on neither my back or stomach, i had to lay on my side with a pillow between my legs, in fetal position to relieve pressure. Could barely walk, id be better off crawling if i wanted to get anywhere. Tried the whole antibiotics thing again, but the abscess only got worse with time. So, i went to outpatients to get surgery done to remove it. The doctor in outpatients had froze the area and drained it to relieve the pressure for the meantime, until i was to see the surgeon the next day. Let me just say, the smell of the abscess being drained…….. oh my god.. the worst smell. But right after that, i could walk and sit with no pain. The doctors then gave me morphine and made me stay over night.

The surgeon did the surgery on me the day after, which i was nervous about. They put me to sleep, and i woke up talking to nurses all doped up and laughing my ass off. I didn’t feel any pain, and since that day i still haven’t, and its been 5 days since the surgery. Haven’t taken any pain killers or anything since then. I think it might have something to do with nerve damage, but hey, i’m thankful for that. haha The downfall of all of this was that i had a flight today to move, unfortunately i had to change the date. I had no idea after getting the surgery done that a nurse would have to come to my house twice a day to change the dressing.

I feel 100x better after the surgery than i did before i had it done. So, to those whom are scared to undergo the removal of it, don’t be. You’ll feel sooOooooo relieved, TRUST ME!!
