I am a fourteen year old girl with a pilonidal cyst. I had been feeling symptoms such as irritation and discomfort since I was about 10 but I never told my parents because I thought it would just go away on its own. Up to this point, there was no drainage, just pain. One day, it started bleeding, so I was forced to say something and was taken to the doctor. They said I had a pilonidal cyst that needed to be removed, so naturally I was very worried.
I met up with the surgeon and planned a surgery date about a month later, but about a week after that, the pain was unbearable and I had to have surgery to get it lanced and have all the drainage sucked out with a vacume . After that I had to wait almost a year for it to heal long enough so they could remove it. The surgery went well but I m not allowed to do much for two months. Not in too much. Pain though because it was closed.
Long story short it was a pretty horrible year for me because I had to miss out on sports and living with it at school was terrible but I’m happy it’s all taken care of and soon I’ll be able to be the person I was before.
