I am a 32 year old female who had an abscess back when I was only 17 years old.
I worked on the weekends as a waitress and after one particularly long night I remember feeling like my buttcrack was irritated, just from being sweaty. I couldn’t wait to take a shower and figured the skin irritation would go away. Over the next few days I developed the characteristic painful swelling next to the top of the buttcrack… It was even warm to the touch! I was too afraid to say anything so I was just trying to wait it out…
Meanwhile, I couldn’t sleep on my back, right side, sit certain ways… I put ice, heat, but it only seemed to get worse. One day at the park goofing around with some friends, my friend was piggy backing me and set me down against the metal pole for the swing set – it was te most excruciating pain I’d ever felt in my life because the bump had internally ruptured! I actually cried and my poor friend, who really hadn’t set me down too hard, was so surprised and apologizing profusely.
After that, the bump developed two sinuses that would drain, and I STILL was too afraid to say anything to my parents. I created my own sort of home care regiment, where I’d take a hot shower and press to drain the abscess, then dry completely and place gauze to keep it drier and help it heal. This went in for at least a month. I started to feel desperate like it would never go away! At this point I remember being at church and just begging God to heal me… That this was beyond my control.
After about 3 more weeks, the drainage started to lessen and I now have a scar that is about the size of a quarter. Since that experience I have never had another abscess. I have only recently done research to try to find out what it was that I went through. I know that I have about 3-4 of the pin sized holes in the upper buttcrack, but for my luck it hasn’t returned. I wouldn’t recommend doing what I did and not seeing a doctor, but as far as it being impossible to cute yourself, I must be a rare case. That or God truly heard my prayers 🙂
