anne’s story

June 10, 2011

As a 64 year old female, I’m not the typical sufferer from this condition. I have always had a small pit above the tailbone and until the last couple of years or so it has caused no problems. Now it flares up with an infection roughly once a month. I don’t really have any pain or discharge. The area just becomes itchy then red. I have seen a hospital doctor who didn’t think it was ‘sinister’ but I am concerned about the regularity of the flare ups.

I also get headachey and stuffy nosed on a regular basis which I think may be linked. I have looked at the photos of operations and read people’s experiences (albeit the unlucky 10%) but I am wary of surgery. I’m also worried about leaving it but the symptoms are not very bad and don’t stop me doing anything and I fear that surgery might make it worse.
