This may get longwinded… Sorry in advance. 🙂 Basically I have always been quite healthy so it was shocking when in April this year I found blood after a stool. I panicked but my parents thought I was dehydrated.
So I drunk tonnes of water and it didn’t happen again. Until two weeks later. My parents and I jumped to conclusions (allergies,haemerhoids etc) but we decided that since it was only twice and I wasn’t in pain, there was nothing to be worried about. Then suddenly there was blood at least once every week and I was concerned. But again we put off the doctor’s appointments partly due to my own fear and partly because we didn’t have a reason.
Soon I was in a lot of pain, a lot more then I let on. I discovered a lump and my mother thought it was a haemerhoid. I lived with this as best as I could until my dancing teacher kicked me in the butt and I almost cried. That night, my abcess must have burst whilsts at a birthday party. I had to make an embarrassing exit and I was in a lot of pain. It increased all through the week to the point where I was lying down at work because I couldn’t sit any longer. After a dancing display which I wasn’t able to finish because I was in so much pain, I went to a doctor who diagnosed me with pilonidal sinus/abcess.
I was handed antibiotics and referred to another doctor. The new doctor thought it was healing for a long time. I started feeling pain again and he realised that the healing tissue was actually hiding a massive hole. He referred me to a specialist and on Tuesday my specialist said there was no alternative but surgery due to the antiboitics and how they had stopped working. My surgery is scheduled for later this year but I’m on antibiotics still and have been for about 9 weeks now. I can’t say anything about surgery yet but if someone thinks they have this condition my advice is GET IT CHECKED ASAP! Its better to know what’s going on rather than just worrying about it like I did. I’ll keep you all posted on my surgery.
