I’ve had a pilonidal cyst since I was 16 and I am now 30.
I just recently had surgery 3 weeks ago, it was suppose to be an open wound. Unfortunately, the surgeon who did the consultation was unavailable to do the surgery. I ended up being assigned to another surgeon who opted to close the wound with sutures(I found that out 5 days after when I took the packing off).
Everything was great first 2 weeks, when I changed my packing no blood, no pain, nothing. The only pain I had was my body hurted and I had a sore throat from the breathing tube. The original medication provided no relief so I was given a new prescription which helped greatly.
Unfortunately, by the start of the 3rd week I developed an infection. After, speaking to the surgeon he said it was okay along as I had no fever and it was draining. Two days ago before getting my sutures removed I noticed a hole. The wound care nurse advised that the hole was not apart of the sutures and develop separately. She reinforced the healed suture line with steri strips. I should have never had the surgery, it has been a total failure because it is still draining from the infection. I have unnecessary time off from work.
