Crislynn’s story

June 25, 2015

I just found out today (confirmed by my PCP) that I have a Pilonidal Cyst. I’m experiencing mild discomfort at the present time in the area, in fact I thought I had just bruised my tailbone somehow because I’d never heard of PC.

Last night the cyst opened and it’s slightly draining fluid and a bit of blood. I’m still able to lay on my back as well as sit and drive okay. I’m feeling some lower back discomfort which is unusual for me. Thus site has been tremendously helpful and has eased my mind as I had unfortunately Googled photos of post-surgery last night.

My biggest question right now is – is the wound vac process worth it? My primary care physician indicated that he thought my cyst is deep and it’s supposedly tracking. I have an appointment with a surgeon on Monday (it’s Thursday). My doc said the surgeon may try a vac process for a few weeks. I’m the mother of small children and have a pretty active full time job – I worry the vac is a lot to handle and I may need surgery in the end anyways.
