Hello, Well i am an expat and been working overseas in Japan off and on since 2001. I won’t bore you with too much back story but the short version is i live in Japan. I didn’t notice i had a cyst on my tailbone until it got infected for the first time in 2011. It was so painful, so i went to the doctor and they decided to lance it. I went to a family doctor it was a very small office on the second floor of a pharmacy. This is common in Japan as space is limited, I must have screamed something horrible because when i came out the few little Japanese kids waiting in the lobby were looking at me with fear and concern lol. Could only imagine what they were thinking. They told me if i got surgery i would be in the hospital for 2 weeks. At the time i was out of work and didn’t have the funds to cover this. So after a bit of medicine the infection went away. The lump was there and i was terrified of it being infected again. A few months later i got a job offer to work on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. As i had a wife and two kids I needed to take what i could get and took the job. I was in Hawaii just short of a year and was worried about the infection but it never came back. Fast forward to 2015 I am back in japan. The infection came back for a second time. This was super painful. At that time I was divorced for about a year by then and my girlfriend was fairly new. She helped me get a doctor’s appointment and went with me to the doctors. I was pretty embarrassed but she is a very sweet woman and didn’t think less of me. They just gave me medicine and it went away. Although i do remember one time at the end of the infection i squeezed it a bit and got fluid all over the wall. It was pretty impressive. Now i have married this sweet woman and we have a 1 year old baby girl. I have a very good job with great insurance. I have a savings for the first time in my life at 36 and completely out of debt. I mention this not only because i am proud of this but also now i can afford to get the surgery I’ve been putting off for 7 year or so. Yesterday I went to get a CT scan and it went ok, Friday I will be talking to the doctor about when to do the surgery. I want to do it mid-July as this will work best for my family schedule. One thing that is bothering me is he said he wants me to stay in the hospital for two weeks. I would lose my Fin mind if I do that as there are no private rooms unless I pay a bunch more money. I am going to “negotiate” with him Friday for the hospital stay. Note that Japan does medical care much differently than where I am from (United States of America) For instance they always try to give you the minimum for pain medicine and they don’t usually do much Anesthesia. For all my children were born natural and the docs never even offered an epidural. Anyway I will update this post as things happen. Hope it wasn’tt too hard to read as I am not a good writer.
