Destinee’s story

October 29, 2015

I am 23. About 6 months ago, I got my very first. It was a dull pain and no bigger than a dime.

My cousin had told me about a cyst she had on her tailbone, and immediately I called her. She told me the horror story about her surgery and how she’d let it get as big as a golfball. So, I was quick to see a doctor. I told him about being fairly certain which kind of cyst it was and he argued, saying it was too early on to tell. He prescribed me antibiotics and I was on my way.

Over the course of a week on the medication, soaking in hot baths and using hot compresses, it had only gotten worse. I went to the ER, as it was my only option (it was late on a Sunday night). The woman knew immediately what it was and when I told her what medicine the walk-in doctor prescribed, she was livid. It was an antibiotic not nearly strong enough.

So, she put me on two different kinds, and I was on my way. She could not go through with any kind of surgery because it did not come to a head. Within 2 days, the pain and swelling had gone down. Within a week, there as no sign left of it.

Well, now. 6 months later. It’s back. And it’s early on again. I’m not sure what to do. I’ll start with the doctor, and antibiotics just to buy some time. I can’t afford the surgery. And I am already swimming in medical bills just from the past 10 minute ER visit before. I know I will have to get surgery eventually. It’s just not doable right now…I’m panicking.
